My first day at corporate and what I've learned is that corporate is about meetings and looking busy
@Tokyo_Trev Corporate life is 10% doing the job, 30% attending meetings about the job, and 60% mastering the art of walking around with a notebook looking important.
@Tokyo_Trev Walking faster makes you look busy šš
@Tokyo_Trev Believe me, those people are going crazy trying to keep you salaried. 'How do we secure that client, how do we better manage trade spend, how do we reach those productivity targets, how do we secure rebates from that supplier, how do we reduce defects' etc.
@Tokyo_Trev While looking busy, donāt forget to actually deliver.
@Tokyo_Trev The ālooking busyā part, spot on. Then they do this thing of leaving one meeting early because they are ārushing to another oneā. Please, what are diaries for!! You are not busy, you are just disorganised. I am mindful that there are exceptions but most of the, just pretence.
@Tokyo_Trev Modus operandi of corporate. Long useless meetings that could've been just an email and being 'expected' to make up for the time lost by working overtime. Unpaid overtime.
@Tokyo_Trev At some levels of the corporate ladder, those meetings are the actual work, thatās where critical issues are discussed, decisions are made, and the direction of the business is shaped. The more menial work tends to happen lower down, where you're executing rather than deciding.
@Tokyo_Trev Work at a small company for your corporate development and then go work at a bigger firm.
@Tokyo_Trev The use of MBA language will also help. āDouble clickā on the problem. Create āstickinessā and always give a ādroneās viewā after your ābrown paper exerciseāšš
@Tokyo_Trev LOL! People who like to look busy kill me! Running around non-stop, all day long, doing nothingššš¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£ My current job is such good vibes, I donāt even have much to complain about but I have to find something when people complain about their things š«š«š«š
@Tokyo_Trev And the there is us š Working like there is no tomorrow
@Tokyo_Trev Corporate depending on the role is the most mentally taxing task ever. You need to account for something everyday! You need to come up with these brilliant ideas everyday! Improve processes, lead teams and fight like dogs for promotions. Kanti nina nisebenzaphi na
@Tokyo_Trev Lol, unfortunately, that doesn't fly in the legal department šš
@Tokyo_Trev You've already fallen into the trap, don't. But it's still early to climb your way out of it. If not, just wait untill your performance review comes up, and you'll see corporate isn't about meetings and looking busy.
@Tokyo_Trev When i first joined the public service from corporate, I looked like the most 'in a hurry' person in the whole building. Strutting in high heels, files, and coffee in my hands. Colleagues probably got tired on my behalfšš¤¦š¾āāļø
@Tokyo_Trev 2nd week at my corporate, waiting for my working equipment whilst everyone is soooo glued to their laptops and looking busy šš
@Tokyo_Trev Someone is definitely working your part. Just try not to become a dead weight in the team
@Tokyo_Trev Come back n give us more opinions when your probation is finished.
@Tokyo_Trev Everyone who's not in engineering or sales probably feels like thisš« š
@Tokyo_Trev I'd settle for that forever
@Tokyo_Trev In corporate world itās all about perception. Everything you do revolves around perception.
@Tokyo_Trev I sit in an office all day as in literally sit .. the only time i work is when there are regulators or auditor on site
@Tokyo_Trev Your line manager is reading this. Tomorrow you will have a different view of it
@Tokyo_Trev I am AMAZED at how much time I have to myself
@Tokyo_Trev Lol another trick i use a lot, is to rewrite processes and make another department be accountable for it then put myself as the quality oversight to ensure it's done
