Made some pretty big changes to @TopicTrails over the last few months. Will be going into each of these over the next few days. In short: 1. Links list grouping 2. Type schemas (define how nodes can be linked together) 3. Typed highlights 4. An "all links" page

By default, both outgoing links and backlinks are both shown in TopicTrails. You can change this using the link filters at the bottom. For example, here's the same view only showing backlinks for the document on the left.

I find that this particular "reference anything" property of TopicTrails really helps me to stay in the flow of writing notes instead of having to think about how the content should be structured before being able to reference it, as can be the case with block-level referencing

For example, here's an article I pasted into TopicTrails and started linking to. As you can see, the links are simply directly connected to the passages of interest. There's no need to change the content just so I can reference the specific passage I want.

In TopicTrails, you can link to and from any continuous selection (of text or otherwise). This means you can write in a structure or style that is most meaningful to you, and then apply links afterwards. The links live in a separate layer, not interfering with your actual notes.
