8. A new updated version of the dataset is currently in the making, including data for 2020. While we still have a lot of raw data to process, it is apparent that 2020 was not a particularly deadly year, while the number of vague plots increased substantially.

2. There are several reasons why one should be careful using data on non-fatal events to estimate trends. First, available open access sources are fewer the further back in time we search.

1. I deeply appreciate other researchers using our data. But as stated in our codebook, “the distribution of non-fatal events included in the dataset should not be seen as representative” and “only fatal events should be used when analysing trends.” This gives a different picture
