I know this is a complex issue and I am not an ethicist …but I am mortified that we would approve MAiD for mental illness in Canada before we would approve comprehensive publicly-funded access to mental healthcare.

Trauma survivors' "fixation" on the past isn't a "choice." It's a compulsive pattern driven by factors that WE barely understand & struggle to control. Framing it as a obstinate, self-defeating "choice" to ruminate on or revisit the past perpetuates destructive stereotypes.

Every time a therapist tweets “we don’t heal in isolation” or “healing requires relationships,” someone for whom safe, authentic relationships aren’t available right now gives up on recovery. Relationships are A tool of recovery. But they’re not the whole ball game.
