#UN80's latest recommendations provide a diagnosis of why reform is needed. But to make the UN stronger we need to go beyond treating symptoms: we need comprehensive & inclusive reform. This can be achieved through an Article 109 Conference to review the #UNCharter.
The #UNCharter affects us all: it impacts how we respond to conflicts, the climate crisis & new technologies. But the Charter, written 80 years ago, can no longer cope with the challenges of our time. It's time to mobilise for the renewal of the Charter through Article 109.
80th anniversary of UN in 2025 is the time to agree on review of UN Charter which badly needs updating. It was written before nuclear bombing of Japan, & has no reference to environment. UN Security Council is also an ineffective relic of a bygone age. @TheElders @UNCharterReform
“We're using 1945 technology & it’s time for a software upgrade”. The #UNCharter turned 80 this year. Like other octogenarians, it's stuck in its ways & is not exactly up-to-date. But the @UN is too vital to be left as it is: we must make it relevant for today's world.

Our Coalition was in Brazil for fruitful discussions with government officials, civil society & academia. Our trip re-affirmed that there is support for #UNCharter reform by invoking Art. 109. We look forward to collaborating with Brazil & others to repurpose the @UN Charter.
