UNIFIL continues its crucial work of supporting local communities. In Al Hinniyah village, our peacekeepers provided vital medical consultations and treatment to residents who have faced difficulties accessing medical services in recent months.
Pleased to accept the invitation of Sheikh Hassan Abdallah to meet with the muftis and bishops of Tyre yesterday. We discussed the ongoing situation in the south. I thanked them for their continued support to @UNIFIL_ and its peacekeepers. We all share the goal of lasting peace.
UNIFIL head @aroldo_lazaro visited southeast Lebanon this week to see the impact of exchanges of fire. Given the real danger of escalation, we stress: only a political and diplomatic solution is viable. We call on everyone to lay down their weapons so people can return & rebuild.

#RamadanKareem! May this Holy month bring reflection, compassion, unity & peace. Warm wishes from UNIFIL & its 10k+ peacekeepers. Despite daunting challenges, our peacekeepers remain on task, and we continue to encourage de-escalation through dialogue and presence on the ground.
Last week and today I met separately with Lebanese Speaker Berri, Prime Minister Miqati, @LebarmyOfficial Commander General Aoun and Foreign Minister Bou Habib. We discussed the urgent need for de-escalation and the importance of all parties committing to Resolution 1701.
Over the weekend I visited peacekeepers in several UN positions in southeast Lebanon. Despite the circumstances, they remain committed to patrolling and other tasks to restore security and stability. I am immensely proud of the work our peacekeepers are doing each and every day.
Working towards a political and diplomatic solution is crucial for restoring stability.
Today, I met separately with Lebanese Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati & Lebanese Army Commander Gen. Aoun. Our discussions focused on the situation in south Lebanon, emphasizing the importance of deescalating tension in the region & the full implementation of UN Res. 1701.
Daily exchanges of hostilities across the Blue Line risk triggering a broader escalation between Israel & Lebanon, which could profoundly affect regional stability. My message to all sides: Stop playing with fire, de-escalate & bring hostilities to an end.
During a 4-day visit to Lebanon & @UNifil, Head of @UN Peacekeeping @Lacroix_UN stressed that “all actors must cease fire, recommit to resolution 1701 & work toward a durable political and diplomatic solution.” More on the trip 👉 ow.ly/bSOo50QqK6m
As I joined @UNIFIL_ peacekeepers on patrol, I thanked these dedicated women and men for their commitment to @UN peace efforts, as they face a difficult environment every day. Their safety and security must be respected as they #ServeForPeace.
The partnership between @LebarmyOfficial and @UNIFIL_ is essential for the implementation of @UN resolution 1701. In my meeting with General Joseph Aoun, I reiterated UNIFIL’s commitment to supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces.
47 countries contribute troops to @UNIFIL_ . In a meeting with their representatives in Beirut today, I thanked them for the service of their women and men in these challenging times. Their dedication and professionalism are essential to UNIFIL’s efforts to support de-escalation.
In Beirut, I met with #Lebanon Prime Minister @Najib_Mikati & Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri. We discussed the situation in Southern Lebanon and the work of @UNIFIL_ in increasingly difficult conditions and the importance of preventing further escalation.

I arrived in Beirut where I will be meeting with Lebanese officials and armed forces to discuss @UNIFIL_ operations. Also an opportunity to meet with peacekeepers and mission leadership and thank them for their dedication & professionalism amidst these challenging times.
Head of Peace Operations @Lacroix_UN has arrived in Lebanon for his regular visit to the Middle East, this time at a particularly challenging moment. He will discuss UNIFIL's operations with senior Lebanese leaders and meet with the Lebanese Armed Forces and UNIFIL peacekeepers.
Pleasure to meet today with European Union High Representative/Vice President @JosepBorrellF. We discussed current situation along the Blue Line and the importance of preventing further escalation. Pursuing a diplomatic solution is not only possible, but essential.
I expressed my concern about the situation and breaches in the cessation of hostilities, including potential miscalculation, which could have devastating consequences. Our priorities are to prevent escalation, protect civilian lives, and ensure peacekeepers safety and security.
Today, I met separately with Lebanese Speaker Nabih Berri, Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati, and Lebanese Army Commander General Aoun. We discussed the situation in southern Lebanon and the Blue Line and full implementation of Resolution 1701.
As the new year begins, I hope for a diplomatic solution to ease tensions in this region. Recommitting to Resolution 1701 is crucial. To our dedicated peacekeepers, especially during these tough times, thank you. Your safety is our priority. Wishing you all a #HappyNewYear!
