🎥 Goby: “If I can’t see the seabass… maybe it can’t see me!” 🐠👀 Seabass: “I know you’re in there somewhere…” 🐟 Welcome to the #Bucephalusminimus life cycle: 🦪Cockle → 🐠 Goby → 🐟 Seabass Nature: part hide-and-seek, part reality show.
Currently searching for #metacercariae in our samples 🔬, but we might have stumbled upon #Glugea instead… not 100% sure 😅🐟. Parasite's life cycles are trickier than you’d think. Every unexpected find is a chance to learn something new!
Check out the cercariae of Bucephalus minimus! 🔬 These tiny larval trematodes swim through the water seeking gobies 🐟, their intermediate host, before eventually reaching seabass 🐟, their final host. Nature’s life cycle is wild! #Parasitology #BucephalusMinimus

Recently, we have been infecting cockles with #Mytilicola 🪱 for a new mesocosm experiment. Additionally, we conducted a boat trip 🛥️ to a site with high prevalence of #trematodes in the #sporocyst stage infecting #cockles, hoping to infect our #gobies 🐟 with #metacercariae.
