I've realized over time that I have an 8-9 month gestation period for grief. It usually starts with numbness, sometimes bargaining, anger, deep depression, walking depression, and then I start to feel somewhat ok.

I hate crowds. But, I make exceptions if it's worth the aggravation. Slight possibility I can get a ticket to Taylor Swift at SOFI. I have never been to a TS show and never really considered myself a "fan" until Folklore. Worth it?

When my aunt died in 2021, I felt catatonic and spent my days watching every movie in the Marvel universe. I couldn't just watch random movies - I had to give myself a project. Having a small to do list, even filled with mundane things, really helps.

Stress induced mutism is a real thing for autistic people. I'm a pretty quiet person generally, but when I'm really going through it, I will go completely silent. Mainly, to prevent meltdowns and because it's overwhelming to try and communicate.

If you're trying to get healthy and someone tells you that you really shouldn't eat fruit because of sugar? Tell them to kick rocks. You chose a banana instead of a candy bar or a bag of Doritos. Keep it up.

Solitude in the car with full control over my environment will almost always win out over the sensory nightmare of the airport. Even if takes me four times as long to get there.

I hate to fly. I don't mind the actual flight once I'm in the air. But, bright lights, loud noises, and constant movement can be a nightmare when you are AuDHD. Boarding early helps but the airport alone is a nightmare.

A thing I miss about the pre-internet "before times" is how much time was spent in long, concentrated blocks. Reading, making art, thinking or hanging out with friends.

How often do you mask your autism or ADHD? It's probably a lot more often than you think. Most of it is on autopilot and you don't even realize you're doing it. This is especially true for women.

It's common for neurodivergent people to get fired. I was once let go from a restaurant for not being "perky" enough. They weren't wrong.

Do you consider yourself neurodiverse? This is a term frequently used for folks with autism and ADHD. But, it really just describes a brain that works "differently." If you have anxiety, depression, learning disabilities, or a personality disorder, you too are neurodiverse.

Imagine taking a three year old to a fair and making him stay all day with no break. Meltdown city. Why? Too bright. Too much noise. Too many people. Hungry. Exhausted. This is autism and ADHD. Every single day has the potential to be a long day at the fair.

I'm starting to realize how affected I am by other people's energy. If they start ranting about something and get really upset, it feels like my nervous system is being hijacked. Sometimes, it takes hours to calm myself down.
