OTD in 1977, Theodore Edward Temple, VCU’s 2nd president, passed. As @RTDNEWS put it, he became president “with the task of ending the internal conflicts that had plagued the merger.” He built up the university’s reputation, and brought about “a new MCV hospital.” #VCUPromise

In the fall of 2008, VCU celebrated 40 years with the “Fortieth and Forward” commemoration. The day before the festival of events, officials dedicated four historical markers, one of which is pictured here from Founders Hall on the Monroe Park Campus.

Great article! We feature McLeod's contributions to VCU in #FulfillingThePromise. “They [VCU] had gone on record saying this university was moving in a different direction, that there was going to be a different time.” The SAAP would hold the university to its promise.

In 1967, an interracial group of students held meetings to address race relations on campus and to promote establishment of a black studies program. They formed Students for an Afro-American Philosophy and gained recognition as a student organization in 1968. #BlackHistoryMonth

On this day in 1969, Warren Brandt's hiring as VCU’s first president came. We write, "His black horn-rimmed glasses and short, brush-cut hair had conveyed youth and energy only a few years before, but styles had changed, seemingly overnight, and no doubt he looked a bit stuffy.."
