In our RE work this half term, we are learning about the Jewish ritual of Shabbat. We have learnt about the different activities and symbols that form part of Shabbat and the Shabbat meal, and even got to try some challah bread 🥖and grape juice 🍇 for ourselves. 😋
We had lots of fun in the sun today☀️ with Sam from Shape who helped us to put our hockey skills to the test. We practiced keeping control of the ball as we dribbled round our partner and then took the ball for a walk to find them!
In our English lessons, we are enjoying this wonderful book by Mini Grey @Bonzetta1. We’ve produced some fabulous writing inspired by this twist on a much loved fairy tale, including character descriptions, a notice for what will be found in the woods, and rules for wolf hunting!
This half term, our diversity focus is mental health. We will be sharing some wonderful books to help us to understand that having a healthy mind is just as important as a healthy body! We will be exploring lots of ‘big feelings’ and thinking about how we can manage them. ☺️
In our new computing unit, Grouping data, we have been learning about the importance of labels to name objects, and have used our knowledge to match objects to their labels.
We were so excited to start our new History topic! We have been introduced to the six incredible women we will be learning about this half term. Can you work out from these clues who they were and how they might have helped to change the world?
We are very proud of the ferris wheels we have produced in our design and technology unit this half term. With lots of team work and problem solving, we have made a moving model using a wheel and axle mechanism. 🎡🌟😁
In RE, we have been learning about Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. We have thought about how the welcome he was given is similar to the way royalty or celebrities might be welcomed today, and discussed why he was treated in this way. ✝️🌴🫏
We have thoroughly enjoyed developing our design and engineering skills to build our own models for a ferris wheel. We have completed our wheels with axle holders. Watch this space to see the finished models! 🎡
In week 3 of our orienteering unit, we have been following our maps to create numbers using the apparatus. This has been a great test of team work, problem solving and logic. ☺️
Our English text this week is the wonderful @OliverJeffers book, The Great Paper Caper. We have loved being detectives as we have uncovered the clues to discover who was up to no good in the forest!🌳 🐻 🪓
Look at this amazing artwork we created using the drawing and shape tools on the Seesaw app! We added squares, rectangles and lines in black and primary colours to produce abstract art inspired by the artist, Piet Mondrian. 🖼️🎨
We had a wonderful sports session with our amazing Bronze ambassadors this afternoon. 🏃🏃♀️🏆 They did a fabulous job devising and delivering the session. The Woodpeckers had a great time and showed fantastic speed, skills and stamina. 🌟👏
We have been learning about measuring in metres in Maths this week. We watched Greg Rutherford win gold by jumping a bigger distance than the width of our classroom! We then tried some of our own sporting challenges and measured our own distances.
Today, we have started our new Geography unit “Why is on world wonderful?”. We learned that the UK has lots of interesting geographical features and sorted them into human and physical features. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴⛰️🏰
Look at these wonderful books we have shared this half term for our diversity focus to celebrate people with special needs or disabilities. We have learnt that any obstacle can be overcome and that we should always see past a disability to know what makes each of us special.
We have enjoyed another wonderful afternoon of storytelling with @bethguiver. We absolutely loved hearing the traditional tales from around the British Isles. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪
In Science, we have been learning about different groups of animals and their characteristics. Today, we have explored the similarities and differences between animals in each group.
Woodpeckers have been making this beautiful display of “stretchy flowers” in PSHE this week. Not only have they brightened up the classroom, they have also helped the children to think about the importance of challenging themselves to learn a new skill. 🌼🌸🌺💐
In our computing unit this half term, we have been learning how to give commands to our bee bots. We know how to program sequences of commands to move and turn our robots to get them to a given finish point. 🐝 🤖

In History, we created a timeline to see when these significant female figures were making history. Over the next few weeks we will be learning about the amazing things these women did to change the world.
We have thoroughly enjoyed developing our design and engineering skills to build our own models for a ferris wheel. We have completed our wheels with axle holders. Watch this space to see the finished models! 🎡
Y6 have created some stunning pieces to convey a message to ‘make their voices heard’. They have worked hard to apply the skills they have learnt during this @kapowprimary unit and taken inspiration from some wonderful street art.
This term we are looking forward to reading and listening to stories that celebrate special needs and disabilities #celebratingdiversity
Kingfishers Year 1s and Year 2s have had their first go at completing an end of unit online assessment in computing, using the new #Seesaw assessment templates for the quizzes. Well done, everyone!
Year 2s have begun to use base ten to subtract a 1-digit number from a 2-digit number. They worked really hard to photograph their work and upload it to the #Seesaw slides. 👍😊🧮
We were super historians today and used a range of historical artefacts to find similarities and differences between the old school and WHPS today. Great work, Swallows!
In the first lesson of our brand new ‘Addition and Subtraction’ topic in Maths, we began to explore practically splitting a whole amount into parts.
During our reading for pleasure session we created lolly stick puppets from our favourite stories to help us retell them with our friends. Great work, Swallows! 😊📚🐛🥔
@WHPWoodpeckers Thanks for this cheery post. A loud RAAAAAAAH! To all Woodpeckers - and carry on enjoying your reading and writing! Ian Whybrow
In English today we have been creating characters inspired by Ian Whybrow’s ‘Harry’. Fantastic work Swallows 😊
Today we used a range of materials and techniques to develop textures using paint. Fantastic artwork Swallows! 🖌️🍂🍁🐚🌾
In Art, Puffins have been learning how to create texture with paint. They did a great job of recreating the texture of lots of natural objects! 🍃
We completed a history walk around the village today and learnt all about the significance of Simeon Manlove and the Holymoorside cotton mill. See if the children can tell you some local history they learnt about today! 😊
This term we are learning about the famous author -Oliver Jeffers. Each week we are sharing a new book from his exciting collection. We have also been learning facts about Oliver Jeffers too. Look at the books we have been reading so far.
Today the Reception children had a great time taking part in Dough Gym. Lots of fun exercise to support our fine motor muscles.
This afternoon we were historians! We used family artefacts to think about how they can be used as evidence of what life was like in the past. The children were fascinated! 😊
If you like non-fiction, check out our new collection of @dkbooks . Read for information and find out about anything from volcanoes to animals.
