I’ve criticised Mo Salah’s football ability many times (and gladly held my ground and explained why despite knowing it was unpopular to do so) but I’ve always been clear that it’s about how he plays football and certain performances. I’ve never criticised him personally or his commitment to the club and I also frequently caveat my criticism with the fact that it’s undeniable that he’s unparalleled in Premier League history as a goal scorer. In general, I’ve always stuck by two rules when it comes to critique of players: 1) Young players and less senior players should get as much grace as possible. Focus on their positives instead of their negatives because they have less responsibility and they’re still building up their careers. 2) When it’s valid to critique players focus being specific about their actual poor qualities and performances which should be improved on. But too many other “big” accounts on here love to pick on lesser loved players because they know it will get them interactions by going along with the public sentiment. They don’t realise that they’re fanning the flames and that players nowadays will be seeing their tweets and it will likely have a negative impact. Darwin clearly suffered a lot from our online fanbase. He’s left the club now and people are still using him as a whipping boy for easy numbers. I’m glad Mo Salah stood up for him and Lucho. Respect is earned and they’ve earned it. In general, we need to improve as a fanbase. Critique is fine but we should always keep it specific and limited. We’re supposed to be the best fans in the world but frequently the fans online fall very short of the standards set by the ones who fill up Anfield every week.
@Watch_LFC Can you explain this then please? Is this also about “how he plays football and certain performances”?
Good point here. As a player-advocate I can tell you that this is not just a problem exclusive to Liverpool fans. We can do a lot better. It starts by recognizing that these players are human beings like us that happen to be playing football and so deserve all the respect. Some do not even hesitate to call players unprintable names.....that is not acceptable for any reason under the sun.
@Watch_LFC Next time tag those accounts with @FoundAMoron @IfindRetards
@Watch_LFC Lets not generalize...online fans are not the only ones who are disrespectful...just the same as those going to the stadium are not all angels and standard bearers of respectability unless you know all fans
@Watch_LFC Internet “fans” will never improve tbh they will only get worse, that’s the new world order and why the best thing you can do for your life is to spend as little time on socials as is possible
@Watch_LFC They all kept quiet when Trent was bullied and thought it will end with Trent, now it’s going round and if care is not taken Salah may one day be one. Glad he spoke out.
@Watch_LFC I loved Nunez & Diaz not least because they absolutely embodied the battling, never-say-die spirit of the club and the city. The club was built on grit and the city's had more than it's fair share of it. So far, Ekitike, Frimpong & Kerkez look like they get this. Wirtz less so.
@Watch_LFC 'I've criticized mo salah's football ability'
@Watch_LFC Ain’t nobody scrolling through all of that 😂
@Watch_LFC Shut up, you literally hate on Salah every chance you get
