@elonmusk virtual power plant for tesla cars?
@WholeMarsBlog @elonmusk Is there a pun
@WholeMarsBlog @elonmusk With 600,000 Teslas in California that is 48,000 MWh of power available. Allowing 20 percent to be used for extreme grid events seems like a no brainer. The positive PR of. EVs coming to the rescue can’t be overlooked.
@WholeMarsBlog @elonmusk lol so I can power my house during a blackout after charging for free at work and at the town charger? Woah.
@WholeMarsBlog @elonmusk If V2G is not doable currently, what about having an option to participate at VPP events with your car by throttle or pause your charging session? Reducing load is as good as providing power, isn't it?
@WholeMarsBlog @elonmusk @elonmusk please revisit this again like with the OG roadster. I know there were concerns it would limit life of cars, but a few cycles on a hot day to help in peak load is no biggy. Voluntary participation with user choice how much to cycle. $2/ kW. Time is right in CA.
@WholeMarsBlog @elonmusk My friends at PGE think it is possible with a retrofit inverter installation, you can turn a tesla into a giant power wall, and take advantage of energy arbitrage using Autobidder. Solar panels is optional.
@WholeMarsBlog @elonmusk HW cannot do V2G, and @Tesla's strategy is not to allow inactive vehicles to be repurposed as stationary storage, but preventing them from being inactive through autonomy/robitaxi. Dual use will always be a compromize. Car is optimized for driving, powerwall to support the grid.
@WholeMarsBlog @elonmusk Yes please. Allow bidirectional battery juice transfer, at lease for emergency instances like right now.
@WholeMarsBlog @elonmusk If the answer was “yes, but only for LFP battery versions” would you accept a lower range vehicle?
@WholeMarsBlog @elonmusk Wasn't this seen in the code? Guess the car needs to handshake with a recognized charger. Plus could be a warranty headache for Tesla in over ageing the cells. 5 yrs from now we want people boasting how many miles their car has done, not how many miles the battery has lost?
