I’ve read an interesting alternative theory. This was actually a purposeful design decision. Stops people from over charging the mouse and thus reducing usable battery life long term. Secondly, Apple is very deterministic about their design. They did not want a mouse someone could use plugged in. It’s a wireless mouse.
