People have been making VR games for almost a decade now and no one’s figured out how to make a VR experience the average consumer wants to play for more than 45 minutes and multiplayer avatar-based ones are noticeably absent but sure the world’s ready for Snowcrash any day now.
Second Life was a beautiful fever dream of an experiment bouyed by endless spam, weird scams, a huge furry sex sub population and usually made the news via massive flying dildo attacks during major events, but I’m sure mass market acceptance is just around the corner.
@ZenOfDesign I actually like my Quest enough to have bought prescription lenses for it, and my response to Meta is still "lol." They have a long way to go to get to anything that isn't either a quick-hit game like Beat Saber or Superhot or an "experience" nobody does twice
@ZenOfDesign My guess is that VR will go back to just being used for industrial/military applications but will never die down completely. I can imagine it being mandated by employers relying on remote work, though, and I bet it's what Zuck is relying upon above all.
@ZenOfDesign At the end of the day you have to put a bucket on your head to use it. Very few games or experiences are worth disrupting your day to do that. And the few that do find something cool to do with it? Usually you can find a version that gets 90% of the value without the bucket.
