No, seriously, Uber is deciding what driver gets what job based on their weight, whether they ever missed a payment, what political associations they have. Algorithmic wage discrimination should be made illegal before it becomes the dominant business model.

Or I should say, should be clarified to be a violation of the many unfairness laws that ban such behavior AND be made triple underlined illegal.
@ZephyrTeachout This is some dystopian “social credit score”-level shit
@ZephyrTeachout I'm thinking this is just a patent lawyer gone wild trying to make their "invention" as expansive as possible Or, giving them the ability to sue a competitor who uses these some of traits in their matching algorithm
@ZephyrTeachout Let’s just call it discrimination though. Calling it algorithmic makes it sound like it’s not a choice being made by people when it most definitely is. Probably too late though
@ZephyrTeachout @nandoodles The US desperately needs privacy laws like GDPR in the EU. Any firm doing business internationally already has to comply to access to EU markets. This means the cost of complying to a similar US law would be minimal and would reduce IT costs over time due to less complexity.
@ZephyrTeachout information asymmetry as a service, with a side of algowashing
@ZephyrTeachout @nandoodles Is Uber insane?
@ZephyrTeachout If it looks like FASCISM, Talks like Fascism, Walks like Fascism, it's probably FASCISM! <+ > FASCISM HAS CORRUPTED CONGRESS & GUTTED AMERICA!
@ZephyrTeachout @Nash076 So should favoring one type of business owner over others..based on race age politics ..l
@ZephyrTeachout @LukewSavage Banks are already defunding those affiliated with “scandalous” groups. Who needs police when the corporations will starve the noncompliant?
@ZephyrTeachout No seriously you and your fascist colleagues allowed it
@ZephyrTeachout Not surprised, data bundling, multiple data points collection, data capitalism is insane!
@ZephyrTeachout @nandoodles This is just matching drivers to customers in a way that leads to better customer experience. It’s not like Uber is saying “no fats no femmes” when you sign up to be a driver.
@ZephyrTeachout this is quite obviously a patent (or patent application), and says nothing about what they are actually doing
@ZephyrTeachout I use a taxi when I need a ride. I don't trust Uber.
@ZephyrTeachout @StrikeDebt This is only going to become worse over time. The rulers are building a techno-fascist state, a digital panopticom where we are completely transparent to them, but they are completely opaque from us. We need freedom tech like #Bitcoin, Nostr, Tor, @keet_io to fight back.
@ZephyrTeachout @NerdPyle 134 is illegal in any other context
@ZephyrTeachout What is the alternative? Human operators transferring customers to drivers? Because that raises a whole other set of problems.
