Saving for retirement is good… but don’t make the mistake of funneling all your savings towards it. It’s not easy to tap penalty free if you need it. It’s a balancing act - saving for your future self vs taking care of yourself now.

I’m sure there is some reason behind the origination of it, but why does supplemental income have its own tax withholding rates?? Bonuses, commissions, RSUs, NSO exercises - just withhold taxes from it like regular salary. Seems like it would make peoples lives simpler.

If you receive RSUs as part of your equity comp see that is an immediate 🚩 to check in on your tax situation Most companies only withhold 22% for federal taxes when they vest & usually your actual tax bracket is higher than that, leaving you under withheld #equitycomp #RSUs

If you’re planning to, or in the midst of switching jobs It’s the prime time to negotiate your comp, especially the equity It’s usually muuuch harder to move the needle too much once you’re already hired ➡️ Do the research ➡️ Use your leverage ➡️ And just ask #equitycomp
