Yrs ago, I learned the difference between guilt & shame & how my own misconceptions of the two impacted my MH. Guilt motivated me to hold myself accountable & work toward being intentional about change, while shame imprisoned me into a fixed mindset believing I wasn't capable.

Something that's a common theme w/ people who are unhealed is that they are constantly & desperately trying to be liked & worried abt being liked at any given time. It comes out in various behavioral patterns, none of which are fun to be around. I've been there. It's exhausting.

The 1st time I felt love-I remember it. The words of strangers who welcomed me, loved me w/o judgement, told me their redemption stories, & shared w me their hope. Now, bc of their love & courageous service, I am here, sharing mine w/o shame. Don't underestimate kindness.

Harsh TRUTH abt dysfunctional families! I never expected this in early #recovery. To be judged. Mocked. Laughed at. Discounted. Ignored. But sometimes our light shines bright. So bright it illuminates the dark areas people don't want or aren't ready to acknowledge for themselves.

I'm not here to protect anyone's image. I'm here to live my life. I will clean up only what's mine to clean up. I will hold myself accountable for my own actions & decisions, nothing more. It's ok to let the pieces fall. If that makes them feel uneasy, they should look into that.
