African Court to Spotlight the New Convention on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls Arusha, Tanzania – The African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR) (@court_afchpr) will host a high-level Conference on “Enhancing Women’s Engagement with the Procedures of the African Court” from 3–4 September 2025 at its Seat in Arusha, during the Court’s 78th Ordinary Session. One of the key highlights will be a presentation by Ms. Mary Izobo (@IzoboMary), Our Advocacy Programme Manager, on the newly adopted Convention on the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls (CEVAWG), which entered into force in March 2025. The session will be moderated by Hon Justice Dennis D. Adjei, Judge of the African Court. The discussion will examine the Convention’s key provisions and invite participants to engage in a critical debate on its strengths and shortcomings, particularly with regard to the protection and promotion of the rights of women and girls. The Conference will bring together counsel on the Court’s Legal Aid Scheme, civil society organisations, NGOs, AU human rights bodies, and gender equality experts. It aims to strengthen knowledge of the Court’s procedures, address barriers to women’s engagement, and foster partnerships that advance justice. 🔗🎥Link: african-court.org/wpafc/african-… #AfricanLaw #HumanRights
