All First Nations languages in B.C. are at risk. The number of fluent speakers in B.C. dropped 18% between 2018 and 2022.
@_FPCC There are over 34 different FN languages in BC. I can definitely see how it could be a challenge.
@_FPCC Are you going to finally admit that their are no mass Graves under the churches yet? You still have the majority of the country believing this lie.
@_FPCC the nations are friendly today... ... what was it like BEFORE europeans arrived?? Tzouhalem, Maple Bay battle, multiple wives, heads, Haida, land ""acquistion"", taking prisoners???, child brides,
@_FPCC This is of no fault but their own, if they wanted their language to continue, they should have taught their children. that is what many nationalities do.
@_FPCC Similar outcomes for the Scottish Highlanders after the Jacobite uprising. They had their lands and language removed by the Crown. Scots still lament the losses, but they keep focused on moving forward. Language is important, but to live, it has to have a utilitarian purpose.
@_FPCC WOW. The amount of hate for FN in this thread is appalling.
@_FPCC I don't disagree that this is a problem, for any minor language. Typically, children of immigrants can understand but not speak their parents' native language. And the language disappears in the following generation.
@_FPCC No point in speaking a different language from everyone else. If we all spoke our own language there’d be no one to talk to.
