Fans need to get used to this. With Stearns running the team situations like this are going to happen a lot. Mets are going to have a surplus of talent under Stearns and you can't keep everybody. Losing Mike Vasil or Eric Orze won't be the end of the world. #LGM

Not to mention Vasil is not the most talented pitcher. A season like this is very unexpected at this point for him and if he continues this is a giant question mark a lot is pointing to that this is an outlier year.
@_MetsMetrics It’s actually a crazy take. It’s a giant compliment to Stearns. “There’s so much talent here there’s not enough room for everyone” lol
@_MetsMetrics While I don’t really believe Vasil will be good in the long run, the “surplus of talent” argument is a null point when your pitching staff stinks. The Mets currently have multiple DFA worthy bullpen arms on the active roster in a playoff hunt rn while our castoffs are excelling.
@_MetsMetrics Part of being good and having a damn good farm is guys WILL leave and be successful other places. You won't keep EVERY MLB caliber player in the system. And you won't get EVERY decision right. That is literally impossible
@_MetsMetrics While it is frustrating ultimately it is a good thing if players that come out of the Mets system succeed for other teams. If every player we traded failed teams would undervalue our prospects which would hurt future trade value.
@_MetsMetrics Vasil's numbers are not even THAT good. His xERA is 3.96 4.46 FIP 1.22 WHIP This is first half 2025 Kodai Senga but with less strikeout stuff. He's gonna give up a bunch of runs at some point.
@_MetsMetrics People really need to read this and retain it. Look at all the players that WERE on the dodgers at one point that they had to trade. Yordan Alvarez being a dodger breaks my brain.
@_MetsMetrics The Mets have run through 45 pitchers this year. Just by chance some of them will land somewhere and have good runs. Being a GM isn’t about picking the 10 best pitchers anymore.
@_MetsMetrics Also this guy screams 2026 regression. 72 K’s in 90 innings isn’t great. Still feel good about this being the arm we let go, especially with how the dudes still in the system we kept around are performing
@_MetsMetrics Fans will always complain . He held all our top prospects and even mid pitching ones . Didn’t give into pressure of trading them for someone everyone will cry about in a month anyway . And every single team has pitchers having a good year and bad year . It’s baseball
@_MetsMetrics People need to watch more baseball other than the Mets. All the top teams have been built over the course of many years not 18 months.
@_MetsMetrics His underlying numbers are also not good, would expect him to regress
@_MetsMetrics He has to vet players better. Perhaps a bit of research may have revealed Helsley would flounder in NYC.
@_MetsMetrics Too be fair, Vasil is also pitching for a sub-500 team. Not a knock on Vasil but a team like that has an opportunity to see what they have and not worry about what happens.
@_MetsMetrics Dude's walk rate is above 4 per 9 anyway. And his K rate is pretty pedestrian. Not saying FIP is the be all/end all but this is not a guy who has any real chance of this kind of ERA long term without big changes.
@_MetsMetrics Stearns groupies will never find issue with 87 win boy genius. 13 years, no ws appearances and in 2022, a 37 year old supposed genius was bounced upstairs as a consultant in Milwaukee after his disastrous hader trade that sunk Milwaukee season.
@_MetsMetrics Personally, I would rather build the roster through the farm and never trade for a rental again. Vasil, Hamel, Orze and Butto would be a better bullpen than Rogers and Heisley. Gilbert would give you more than you are getting from Mullins and Siri. I could mention PCA also!
@_MetsMetrics BULLSHIT. @Mets P lab failed Orze, Vasil & Houser. Those 3 had better years than anyone brought in here to be “fixed” . Go play your mental gymnastics somewhere else. Stearns can’t pick FA players to save his life. Soto & Pete were Cohen. #Mets
@_MetsMetrics Still waiting for this “surplus of talent” lmfao this is such a terrible take.
