Morning radio show is playing “guess the salary.” A postdoc comes on and makes a valiant effort to explain academia in 30 seconds. Every radio host guessed the postdoc was making nearly 2x their actual salary. Let’s fix that. @AcademicChatter @OpenAcademics @thepostdoctoral

“Fentanyl exposure” is not a thing. Full stop. You can be “exposed” to fentanyl but unless you ingest it *non-accidentally* then you are not at risk for symptoms from fentanyl or fentanyl overdose/toxicity. This is a basic science concept that has been proven over & over & over.

Folks, the goal is to improve the experience of the postdoc, not increase or decrease the number of PDs. The way it is isn't sustainable. The # will go down obviously bc the NIH budget is finite. Pressure congress to appropriate more. Pressure able institutions to start paying.

If the rebuttal to ⬆️ the post-doc minimum salary to $70K is “but then there will be fewer post-docs!”, then so be it. You can’t convince me that $56K is a sufficient salary for a post-doc, especially in high COLAs. And especially for ones who want a family.
