Steve Biko, murdered by apartheid police on September 12, 1977, was an avid rugby player. From the Eastern Cape, one of two regions combined known for their rich black (including coloured) rugby tradition as old as that of whites, Biko is shown here (top back) in a match in 1970 between white and black students from the segregated campuses of the University of Natal, where he studied medicine. The game in itself was a political act. The photo was first published on @News24 in 2019.
@_ElevenPeople @thehonestnick @WorldRugby @Springboks @KoketsoSachane @simonbarneswild @simonrug @SiyaKolisi @Rassie72 @RassieRugby Adv Paul Pretorius I understand also played in this game. I wonder who else is alive who played in this game
@_ElevenPeople @thehonestnick @WorldRugby @Springboks @KoketsoSachane @simonbarneswild @simonrug @SiyaKolisi @Rassie72 @RassieRugby Come on now Sean! How could you betray the memory of Bantu Stephen Biko? To many black SAns, such as the most revolutionary political party of fighters, Mr Biko is the essence of Black Consciousness. Now you are reminding SAns that he played a whitemen's game. Lord help us all!😆
@_ElevenPeople @thehonestnick @WorldRugby @Springboks @KoketsoSachane @simonbarneswild @simonrug @SiyaKolisi @Rassie72 @RassieRugby I see you not at the pub in Claremont no more. When are you opening another pub? Pig and swizzle in Rondebosch have not opened since covid, why don't you open a pub there, there are many students in the area.
