A while back I started a medication w/ intense side effects and mentioned it to chat. 2 days later, pulse alerted me to a newly published study showing that high-dose B12 materially helped mitigate those side effects. I probably would never have come across this on my own.

One of my favorite results in 2022 was that it's not enough to just think step by step. You must also make sure to get the right answer :D sites.google.com/view/automatic… (actually a nice insight into a psychology of a GPT; it pays to condition on a high reward)

Clever paper — HyDE: Hypothetical Document Embeddings Instead of encoding the user's query to retrieve relevant documents, generate a "hypothetical" answer and encode that. Documents with right answers more similar to wrong answers than to questions. arxiv.org/abs/2212.10496

In the LLM-science discussion, I see a common misconception that science is a thing you do and that writing about it is separate and can be automated. I’ve written over 300 scientific papers and can assure you that science writing can’t be separated from science doing. Why? 1/18
