Barbara McClintock proposed – over 40 years ago – that transposable element activity could be a response to stress, and I think that we are still only beginning to understand how right she was.

Why does a scientific project take so long? It’s not just because experiments are time-consuming & difficult. It’s often just as much because the thinking required to have the idea happens as a ‘slow hunch’ & what will seem obvious in retrospect takes a long time to dawn on us.
The biggest myth about creativity is that it cannot be learned - either you have it or you don’t..
But psychologists have shown that creativity is linked with 'openness to experience' which increases with cultural activities, new hobbies, mental challenges and becoming awestruck.
