people call beats drumless because they dont feature loud classic hip hop drums added over the samples but most of those samples already contain quieter live drums/percussions that can be emphasized and highlighted in cool ways, like a drumfill instead of a square boom bap beat

Maturing as a music fan is realizing that there’s no reason the entry level stuff can’t be considered just as layered, impactful, & sophisticated as anything on the more outsider/avant-garde side. I mean most of the latter is standing on the groundwork laid by the former anyway
