Actually fixing Google's messaging problem would require a company reorg along the lines of Google Hardware. The messaging head needs to be an SVP position. A succession plan needs to be in place if this person leaves to work at Facebook.

I thought about this before, but I think developers for Apple's platforms should form something like a union to get some leverage. I think there were some efforts a while ago, but I might misremember.
