Galgorm in Co. Antrim seems to derive from Gall Gorm, meaning “blue rock/castle”. Galgorm was formerly known as Ballystraboy, a name which is clearly derived from Irish Baile (an t)Sratha B(h)uí “townland of the yellow river-holm”.

Is cosúil go dtagann Galgorm i gCo. Aontroma ó Gall Gorm,a chiallaíonn “blue rock/castle”. Tugadh Ballystraboy ar Galgorm roimhe sin, ainm a thagann go soiléir ón Ghaeilge Baile (an t)Sratha B(h)uí “townland of the yellow river-holm”.

Lambeg takes its name from Lann Bheag “little church”. It is thought that a Franciscan friary used to sit where the Church of Ireland church is located in the townland of Lambeg North. A previous alternative name for Lambeg was Tulaigh na Sagart “hillock of the priests”.

The hamlet of Finvoy in Co. Antrim derives from An Fhionnbhoith “the white monastic hut”. The site of the monastery itself is likely to be marked by Finvoy Graveyard which lies 3miles southwest, in the townland of Vow, an abbreviated form of the full name (An Bhoith “the hut”).
