Our pupils have been hard at work rehearsing for this evening’s Easter Concert, beginning the day with an energising rehearsal with the orchestra. This concert will be particularly special as it marks the final school performance for our year 13 pupils. #easterconcert

In 2024 A-Level artist Raphi developed portraits of his grandfather, and made studies of Holocaust survivors including Ike Alterman. It was wonderful when they met and gave Raphi the idea for Windermere imagery thinking about his life after the war.

A small sculpture hangs in the Gallery. A cast of Spike’s hand using alginate to form the mold. Throughout A-Level Spike was part of the school climbing group, visiting the climbing centre and exploring the landscape. In the classroom he was an active maker who loved lino.

We ask pupils to develop independent making or engage in creative activities beyond the classroom. They can use an ideas matrix or surprise us. This fabulous F1 cardboard car reflects wider interests and it’s always good to hear how a pupil went about realising their ideas.

We had a fabulous time @WhitworthArt with some of our 6th form artists. We went to see the Barbara Walker show (again). While there we wandered around some of the other exhibits and couldn’t resist the opposite sit and draw together.

In the MGS Gallery there is an exhibition of work by the outgoing Y11 GCSE + 13 A-Level. Come and view an outcome piece, or pieces, by each of our 2024 artists. The prep and development isn’t on display but pop in and celebrate some fabulous achievements and interesting work.

We returned to school today and pupils were eager to develop their work. These Year 9 artists had been cutting silver card collagraphs and inked and printed them today. Y9 portfolio work features linked progression, exploration and developing more advanced skills in new media.

One of our Y7 drop in artists has been painting this week. We love this old banana! He painted it with thick impasto acrylic paint so it has texture. We have loved into look at Wayne Thiebaud’s paintings and we have started some ice cream paintings. #ks3 #art #painting

Our pupils are enjoying the focus on making and materials. Y9 experiment with mixed media on a photocopy of a monoprint of #stpaulscathedral from the previous lesson. We had just introduced them to the work of John Virtue and considered both description and expression.
