I think we live in a century of profound cynicism nothing is worth nothing anymore, it's all "replaceable", even the before inscrutable human mind is now "trivially understood" by the random internet user, with such a high confidence that would make all philosophers of mind tremble in shambles. everything is about greed, status, power if someone do something good, "what are their interests?", "what is they gaining with it?" everything that you don't like is in bad faith, and everything you like is authentic disease of our time. all questions "have an answer" in the tip of your tongue yet, everything never was so shallow and blind. the access of easy information was both a bless and a disgrace to the human species and unfortunately, letting people that reason basically like animals roaming free on the internet did no good as well. Instead of absorbing the information into their souls, and transform it into knowledge; they simply digest and excrement it. The problem was never AI, it's a symptom more than a cause for those problems. The own fact that people are so enamored with those statistical spellers should be sufficient evidence of this. Everything is "a few months" ahead of being replaced. You need to have the absolute certainty of "things will only get better", and if you disagree you are some crazy negationist, it is "the worst it will ever be". You can simply claim whatever you want, if some CEO or big name in the field agrees with you (even if that person is full of but's), it's sufficient to validate it. (Obviously, as another symptom of this problem, you cannot write anything without a disclaimer, so here it is: I don't think the world is decadent or nothing like that, and I don't think "everything is lost" or believe in apocalyptic claims about humanity. I am also not engaging with the thinking of "the past was better", but neither I am with the idea that "the past was absolutely worse in all possible ways". This is specifically a rant about the way people behave on the internet -- and sometimes IRL. I also don't despise AI, I think it's fascinating as a technology, this don't remove the problems it have and the problem people have.)
