One blindspot for AI reasoning engines like o1 is that they all appear to be trained on very traditional deductive problem solving. What would a model trained on induction or abduction do? What about one trained on free association? Expert heuristics? Randomized exquisite corpse?
I think an issue with the next generation of AI is that most people don’t have good test cases ready for them. Yes, everyone will see if they avoid stupid LLM traps (counting, logic puzzles) but those don’t usually shed light on real world work. Who has PhDish problems saved up?
We are just not used to abundant "intelligence" (of a sort), which leads people to miss a huge value of AI. Don't ask for an idea, ask for 30. Don't ask for a suggestion on how to end a sentence, ask for 20 in different styles. Don't ask for advice, ask for many strategies. Pick
