The best suggestion I have for software engineers with some experience is to learn a "different stack": dip your toes at least. If you're doing backend: do some frontend or mobile. Or the other way around. You'll learn a ton and appreciate how challenges are different there.

My teams have 5 questions in a Notion template for any new feature. Important: 1. We can only define the "What" after we understand the "Why" 2. We can only plan the "How" after the "What" is clear 3. Defining the "How" implies discussing tradeoffs that affect "Who" & "When"
