Yes. Writing is not a second thing that happens after thinking. The act of writing is an act of thinking. Writing *is* thinking. Students, academics, and anyone else who outsources their writing to LLMs will find their screens full of words and their minds emptied of thought.

I agree with all of this—with one major exception: constant iteration only improves writing if the iterator is also a good editor. Many good writers are bad editors. Good editors, on the other hand, are more usually good writers in my experience. But not always.

JP Morgan: tariff announcement would raise just under $400B, about 1.3% of GDP, largest tax increase since Revenue Act of 1968. By my calculations, would be equivalent to about a $50/barrel oil tax or $3/ gallon gasoline tax (based on 2024 daily consumption levels, annualized)
