There are ZERO warming centers open tonight in Sacramento. Neither the County nor City have activated them. Non-profit ones are closed including First Steps on North A, and Union Gospel Mission which closed March 11th.

Folks asking me about tax $ and free prison calls: you’re gonna be REAL MAD when you learn that it costs over $100k a year to incarcerate someone in CA state prison & that 50% of the population has been deemed low risk by the prison system’s own metrics.

PIT RESULTS: Sacramento County’s homeless population nearly doubled in 3 years, and is now higher than SF. On any given night, there are 9,278 homeless ppl in the Sac County, up from 5,570 in Jan 2019. Up to 20,000 people will experience homelessness over the course of the year.

.@GavinNewsom and the Legislature have agreed to eliminate all civil assessment debt, but does not fully eliminate the fees themselves, keeping civil assessment fees at a maximum of $100 instead of $300. Read the full press release from @CaDebtJustice bit.ly/3nufJIF

Remember when they were trying to figure out why there was a giant drop in crime like 30 years ago and they tried to say it was due to better policing… And then the Freakonomics dudes figured out it’s because an entire generation wasn’t forced to give birth to unwanted kids.

Those are human beings. Ask yourself why they should be subjected to homelessness. Ask yourself what it’s like to be homeless in the winter, to have to sleep on the train. How’s that fair to them? They need services, they need shelter— prioritize that and you wouldn’t see this
