This is just wow. I didn’t know that the Afghan military was still using searchlight-equipped ZIS-12 WWII-era trucks into the 1980s! The communist army insignia on the door is proof that they did. @MilArchive1978 @BuschModelar

L-39C Albatros serial 0021 of the Taliban AF being repaired at Kabul airport. AFAIK no flights so far, was seen only taxiing. If everything goes well, it may become the first operational jet of the post-2021 Taliban AF. Btw the man on the pic doesn't look like an Afghan. ;)

Are the Taliban trying to make one of their three L-39 jet trainers airworthy? In a recent video, an L-39 with its tail removed appeared on the apron of Kabul airport. Up until now, the machines were parked on a different site intended for 'in storage' aircraft.

A new addition to the Islamic Emirate Air Force: the Taliban claim that they've repaired a former Afghan AF UH-60 serial 0-23296. The machine still has the AAF triangle insignia on the door.

An undated photograph of a former Afghan Air Force pilot with Jamiat-e Islami Commander Ahmad Shah Massoud, era unknown. Mohammed Dawran, a candidate for the Soyuz TM-6 space flight, also defected to Massoud after the government’s collapse in 1992.

Ahmad Shah Massoud's Mil Mi-35 (Mi-24V export variant) Black 68 resting in the Panjshir valley, 1997. The machine survived all rounds of the Afghan wars and is currently active within the Taliban air force.

Former Soviet AF 43 Yellow, later transferred to the Afghan Communist govt. AF (serial 25 Black) and even later operated by Ismail Khan's AF, this Mi-24V has been put on display in the Jihad Museum in Herat. Perhaps someone might be able to find its c/n?

Can anyone ID this vehicle? It was photographed at the Afghan Communist army base in Nangarhar province in 1989. I assume it is a Soviet-made tractor or something like that. Thanks!

This is one of the very few photos of the Taliban Su-22s I've been able to find through the past 20 years. The confirmed serials are 069 (Su-22UM3K), 072 (UM3K) and 82 (M4). The source of the screenshot is this YT interview with a former Taliban pilot. tinyurl.com/2k4h6rm8

Could anyone ID this system? By the time this photo was taken in Kabul in 2002, it had long been out of service, having previously been operated by Afghan air defense forces.

This is an extremely rare photo of one of a few Hekmatyar's helicopters that operated from his base of Chahar Asyab, south of Kabul, in the first half of the 1990s. The other two I have photographic evidence of were an Mi-24 black 113 and an Mi-17 whose serial remains unknown.

I'm trying to figure out what party or unit operated this Afghan BMP-1. It was found in the north, probably around Mazar-e Sharif, after 2001. Could anyone read what's written on the turret?
