Spoke with an HVAC contractor yesterday: - Can’t get qualified techs due to labor shortage - Can’t get service vans due to chip shortage - Cant get fuel for service vans due to gas shortage For anyone out there thinking it’s easy to run a service business, think again.

Wild. Siemens USA plant in NC spends $170k on training & education per apprentice. Even wilder. They see a >30% roi. 9 out of 10 apprentices stay with company.

Many point to youth participation when evidencing the effectiveness of apprenticeships in countries like Germany or Switzerland (50-60% under 25 yrs). I think business participation is overlooked. ~20% of businesses in Germany participate, compared to < 0.5% in the US.

Day Two to One Day stratechery.com/2019/day-two-t… Amazon was showing signs of being a Day Two company, including the alleged manipulation of search. There is reason, though, to be optimistic that the company has gotten back to Day One. Plus, where are the other big tech companies?
