In ministry, especially church planting, the focus is often the doing. God is way more focused on the being and relying which will then give birth to the doing.

Dr. McAlpin was one of my favorite profs @MBTS. He taught us to fight for clarity and simplicity in our hermeneutics class and that will forever stick with me. I will always remember him pulling up a chair or a table and sharing his love for God’s Word with us. Enjoy Jesus Doc.

Pastors, I am often reminded that just because “that’ll preach” does not mean that is what that text is saying. It might be true and needed to be preached, but make sure that specific text is saying that and then preach that.
