how I’d advise my 6th grader here: work hard and quick to do well in the “system tasks” and then use your free time to make actually good things according to your own high standards the system will never provide sufficient standards and the sooner you realize that the better

I did this - I read 50+ books in 2018 - and it sure as hell beat watching TV and scrolling social media but pretty quickly you learn that A) non-fiction is mostly about learning, much of which can't be done just by reading and B) fiction/narratives are nice but only in spurts

I'm articulating this poorly, but each year it feels more and more like content consumption is divided by people who start with algorithm, and those who start with some path outside the algorithm (recommendations / pulling a thread on their own curiosity / etc)

@nabeelqu Uber use spikes by time of day & AVs are expensive. Waymo has to trade off between sizing the fleet for top of curve (inefficient, but guarantees low wait times) & middle (good asset utilization) I think optimal will always involve human drivers to make fleet size variable
