An account of various posts, thoughts and photos from a bygone age of railways (mostly LNER). Enjoy!youtube.com/@failedregulat… cheesecakeJoined January 2023
🚂 1460, still in GNR livery, heads a down Pullman train past Belle Isle Box, King’s Cross Goods Yard in the background, while GC 4-6-0 1167 Lloyd George waits to back down to King’s Cross for another Pullman working, c1923. (📸 H. Gordon Tidey/MLS Collection)
With a load that seems a bit heavy on its drawbar, Pickersgill D40 62262 is photographed by E. S. Russell nearing Keith on a mixed goods on 2nd August 1954. 62262 was the first of the original Neilson, Reid batch of November 1898, entering service as No. 113 in October 1899.
With signs of electrification but apparently wires yet to be strung, a Thompson B1 crosses Dinting Viaduct in 1954, its bogies gleaming in the light. A keen eye can make out brick strengthening piers added to the structure shortly after the first World War - a bit of an eyesore!
No 30736 Excalibur is on the 12.25pm local service from Weymouth to Bournemouth Central, seen here at Creekmoor Junction. Based at Bournemouth shed for the bulk of its BR career, the locomotive was withdrawn in early November 1956. crecy.co.uk/product/southe…

Bedecked with regalia yet sadly without a nick of polish, Robinson C13 67438 is shot by J. B. McCann at Glossop in June 1954 decorated to commemorate the end of steam on the Glossop branch. 67438 would remain allocated to Glossop until reallocation up north on 23rd October 1954.
Haven't been here for a while..
Preserved JGR 9600 2-8-0 No 9667 entered service in 1915 and was preserved in the 70s. However, the engine is facing cutter's torch.

With Fowler's train shed & the GNR goods warehouse battling to be the most imposing structure in the background, Jubilee 45620 North Borneo sets out from Manchester Central on an up express in 1954. It was reallocated to 17B Burton Shed from Nottingham in November 1961 for a 4F.
Passing under a signal gantry, Standard 4MT 2-6-4T 80005 looks quite impressive at the head of a rake of cattle vans at Aberdeen in April 1954. A Derby product of November 1952 sent up north, it spent all but the last few months of the 1950s hailing from 61A Kittybrewster Shed.
Genuinely so lucky that my friends were as passionate as I about these machines, enough that we got them into Train Sim.
One of my more favourite achievements.
Making a good clip with a light load, LMS 2P 40700 reaches the S&D's 'peak', Masbury Summit, in August 1954. 40700 had been the last 2P built, leaving Crewe Works in December 1932. Peter Smith recalls it an able engine even with 8 bogies on the drawbar & a hole in the brick arch!
