Newcastle, 1650. “Yet Margaret Brown was hunge unto death upon the Moore, along with the fourteene other”. ‘The Wicked Of The Earth’. Published 21st November 2024, Northodox Press. The murderous conspiracy behind England’s largest witch trial.
Newcastle booms on the back of the expanding coal trade. The tribulations of the wars and the witch trials are over. Why, then, are women still being murdered in the streets? Elizabeth Thompson will have justice. ‘The Wicked Of The Earth’. 21st November 2024. Northodox Press.
1650. Traumatised spy James Archer returns home seeking his sister Meg, missing in the aftermath of Newcastle’s recent witch trials. Facing a murderous plot to silence women who worked to free the accused, Archer’s last chance for redemption lies in setting himself as bait.
Elizabeth had seen Archer clearly. Of middling height and no clear strength, hesitant in his manner, not much more than her own age, could one underwhelming young ensign really hope to uncover the truth behind what was happening in Newcastle? November ‘24 Northodox Press
Newcastle, 1650, a town wreathed in fear, a murderous conspiracy to hide the truth. James Archer, damaged, guilty, returns home seeking redemption. Elizabeth Thompson, haunted by the women she has lost, will have justice. ‘The Wicked Of The Earth’, coming November 2024.
Inspired by scripture, forged through war, Keelman & miner stand together. From the corruption of Newcastle’s witch trials, the modern world is born. ‘Your wealth is rotting. Your gold and silver corroding away …corrosion will be your sentence, and eat into your body.’
In minutes, Abigail would be in her family’s house on Trinity Chare. Before her father and brothers, she would, finally, tell all: about the secret meetings on Tuthill Stairs; about Elinor Loumsdale and the Newgate women; about these foreign men, now pursuing her for her life.
Newcastle, 1650. In search of the sister he abandoned, James Archer returns to a hometown beset by a fresh trail of murders. Trapped in a web of greed and deceit, the damaged spy must find Meg and escape, before the killers close in.
‘Elinor,’ said Elizabeth, ‘organised succour for those poor souls in Newgate. Food, salves, clothing. And into that dreadful place she brought something more precious. Hope.’ The extraordinary story of Elinor Loumsdale & the all-female campaign to free the Newcastle witches.
Newcastle 1650. England’s largest witch trial. A determined woman with the courage to resist. A damaged spy seeking redemption. A hidden killer stalking them both.
Cruelty. Courage. Conspiracy. Coal. #HistFic #earlymodern based upon the true story of England’s largest witch trial, forthcoming, Northodox Press.
