#scrum is about developing products your user needs rather than developing products you think they want. Delivering increments of working product each iteration is what enables you to do this.

Someone asked me what the most important part of #Scrum is. It’s a difficult one, but my answer is the #increment. It’s what really enables the pillars of empiricism. To go further incremental product delivery is arguably the most important part of #agile approaches. Thoughts?

#ScrumTip If you are using #Scrum and finding it hard to deliver increments, don’t compromise by breaking down into valueless chunks. Instead use it to shine a spotlight on the blockers, and improve the system. System improvement rather than system management

Implementing #Scrum is a revolution. Certain things are necessary for it to work e.g. the increment/s as an output of the sprint, to enable empiricism. Scrum is really difficult to get right and requires discipline. #Kanban is more of an evolution, starting with what you do now

#Strategy is hard, but worth the investment. Good strategy = focus + alignment = great outcomes. Poor strategy = waste = sub optimal outcomes. This is especially important for larger orgs, because at scale it’s even easier to lose alignment #coaching

In my experience, a key outcome for organisations is to accelerate the delivery of strategy. One of the primary constraints I see to this is work in progress. Littles Law tells us that reducing WIP will reduce lead time. So to accelerate delivery of strategy, reduce WIP

Change is really hard, for lots of reasons. People often want proof that the change will work, but in a VUCA environment this doesn’t make sense. So instead create a hypothesis that details the impact you think the change will have, then run experiments. Achieve big through small

#scrumTip if you are unable to deliver a usable increment during a sprint, don’t misunderstand that “Scrum isn’t working”. It may be that Scrum is working perfectly by highlighting something is wrong, so you can inspect and look to adapt. #scrum #agile

#Scrum tip. During daily stand up, rather than go round the team for updates try asking “how can we best make progress on delivering our sprint goal today?”. This helps to provide focus for the team to collaborate on the outcome rather than individual updates #agile #Scrumtips

#Scrum tip; during sprint planning, ask “what outcome will we have at the end of the sprint?”. This may be some learning or something more tangible like a working feature that can be released. This approach enables empiricism which is what helps us navigate complexity #agile

Successful change comes about easier when it’s not inflicted on people, there has to be a motivation to change and then a pull rather than push. It’s really quite hard to get right, I’m still learning (lots), but when done well it has so much power #coaching #change #leadership

Creating and maintaining a #productbacklog is not overhead, it is an essential part of #productdelivery. Items should be #usercentric. Refining everything in detail is overhead, we should defer this until we are confident we will work on it so we can be #adaptable #agile

Couldn’t agree more. This is where frameworks add value IMO, as they can provide some guardrails which help people do stuff. When pairing with an agile mindset there’s lots of potential for cool stuff to happen
