At the Georgian border I was told: leave now, but when you return you must pay 5000 lari. My “crime”? Doing journalistic work in front of Parliament for 2 hours. Border officers forcefully stamped my passport when I said I didn’t want to leave.

In Azerbaijani prisons, all prisoners are systematically tortured and subjected to degrading humiliation by the authorities. Corruption buys comfort for some, while the rest suffer in inhumane conditions. Most of the horrors remain hidden. We don’t even know the full extent.

Bahruz was sentenced to 15 years. He is 30. If he serves it all, he will be 45. His youth gone, stolen by false charges. Prison will break him. This isn’t justice. This is the sentence for standing upright in a system that demands you crawl. #FreeBahruz
