I thank Ambassador @MAshrafHaidari, @displacedint and @ASU for organizing and hosting today’s timely and important conference. In my remarks during the first panel, I emphasized that the root cause of the displacement of millions of Afghanistan’s citizens is the Taliban terrorist group. This crisis will persist until they are removed from power. Countries that view the people of Afghanistan’s refugee situation as a political and security challenge must address this core issue. Deportations alone will only result in renewed external displacement or place returnees at risk of persecution by the Taliban terrorists. Moreover, handing over Afghanistan’s embassies and consulates to the Taliban will only embolden them to intensify oppression inside the country and will drive even more people to flee. The lasting solution lies in establishing an inclusive, pluralistic and democratic government in Afghanistan that can address the political, humanitarian, economic and security crises forcing people to leave their homeland.
@alinazary @MAshrafHaidari @displacedint @ASU Why is that Taliban hag Shukria Barakzai in every conference on Afghanistan’s future when she works for the Taliban, is academically very weak and who is a failed politician?

@alinazary @MAshrafHaidari @displacedint @ASU Unfortunately, many Afghan expatriates still fail to recognize their true enemy; as long as they don’t see the root of their problems in the presence of foreign forces, they will never find a real solution.
