Submitted all four reviews for @CVPR, totalling more 24K characters. For the first time in seven years of regularly reviewing for CV conferences, all four recommendations leaned towards rejection. I hope the ACs and authors find the feedback constructive and valuable!

PhD then: “We validate our method on a large-scale dataset of hundreds of images.” PhD now: “We validate our method on 10 different modalities, 15 domains, 20 scenarios, 25 tasks, and 200 languages, each with millions of testing examples”.
NeurIPS is now a computer vision conference, it seems. Time to bust it up, because I'm not interested in any of that work, and the top 10 authors are all getting 18+ papers in in areas I don't care about.

As a PhD student, I thought the best supervisors had the most papers or the biggest lab As a supervisor, I realise that's absolutely not true 4 ways to actually find a good PhD supervisor #AcademicTwitter

This is my long-winded way of saying - if you are a graduating UG/MS, I would strong consider a 1-2 year RA position with some incredible folks in India. You will do good science in a great environment and get trained by the best. 7/
Paper count is not the only entry path to a strong PhD program - quality of your work and a shining LOR (which needs long-term collab) will do wonders! People can differentiate between quality and quantity of work. Go for quality! Take the long-term view! 6/
