Hey friends! Today we launched a new engagement process on corner stores. The City is looking for feedback on ways to support and expand the array of shops and services in residential areas. Check out the survey and share your thoughts! shapeyourcity.ca/corner-stores
The survey allows you to weigh in on: * the types of shops and services you might like to see in residential areas * possible locations for stores * details related to corner store buildings * opportunities for outdoor space and adjacent public space /2
@andrew_pask Corner stores are needed along the Cambie Corridor. Only one tiny coffee shop which opened recently, from King Edward( W25th to West 41 along Cambie. Terrible for young moms with children, or elderly. Means vehicles required, or trip on bus with strollers.
@andrew_pask Only way to do that is to allow for commercial in residential
@andrew_pask After years of making corner stores “disappear” through regulation, what revelation has planning had? Did someone read Jane Jacobs?
@andrew_pask My feedback: 1. Yes! 2. Allow flex live/work units (supporting small scale entrepreneurs) 3. Use zoning rules to manage noise/pollution (Don't micro-manage uses, sizes, seat counts, location, or # per block) 4. We're a city not a gated suburb, let the city grow and evolve
@andrew_pask I thought this was unusually good for a City survey. Straightforward questions about specific policies. Please give my two thumbs up to the people (person?) who put it together.
