There is no one I have less in common with than the me who wrote my Facebook statuses circa 2008
wow this blew up. please check out these toons I made which I will definitely never regret:
@asherperlman One of mine was simply, “is cleaning.” Why, 2008 Marla? Who cares?!
@asherperlman Every single time I go into the “memories”
@asherperlman what possessed me to post this
@asherperlman I use the memories feature to see and delete those posts every day. Keeps me humble
@asherperlman I know it doesn't make a difference, but every time one of them pops up in my memories, I delete it so fast that 2008 me probably felt it
@asherperlman My Memories post for today says, "is not using Facebook anymore" with zero likes and zero comments. Yet here we are 14 years later and I'm still checking FB pretty much weekly.
@asherperlman In 2014 I wrote a Facebook post sobbing about how the ‘gay agenda’ was a direct detriment to the lives of people who attended church. Now I’m a socialist who came out as pansexual last year and who believes in gender less and less every day
@asherperlman Sometimes I’ll see a Memories Post and think up a funny Comment, only to see I already made that same joke 6 years ago immediately after first posting the Status; and then ALSO posted 2 years ago that the same joke occurred to me 4 years later. 😅 #consistentlyhilarious
@asherperlman I just delete them like they never happened....out of sight out of mind
@asherperlman Me too. But I’m so thankful I was so dramatic back then, I’d delete all my posts at any minor emotional inconvenience. All my 2008 posts are gone but I still have the 2009 ones 🥲 I don’t know who I was
@asherperlman Right? That applies to most of us, and that’s why it’s so insane to me that people get canceled for throwaway jokes they posted on their social media 15 years ago. Absolutely wild.
@asherperlman This, except my fav quotes. Never deleting those 😭
@asherperlman I check my memories every day so I can bask in the shame then delete them
@asherperlman I blogged about the TV industry in 1996. When I was twice as ignorant as I am now. The service I used is long dead but I still get shivers at the thought of it being found if I ever achieve real show biz success.
@asherperlman I’m very much the same person
@asherperlman I just go back and leave comments like “🤦🏾♂️ why are you like this?”
@asherperlman Big part of why I deleted my account tbh
@asherperlman 😄😄 I make sure to go into Facebook Memories EVERY DAY, just so i can delete embarrassing / confusing shyt old me used to say. Speaking of which…brb…
@asherperlman I don’t read mine on account they make my face hurt from cringing.
@asherperlman Literally a different part of the multiverse, if you believe we slipped through a black hole in 2012 when the CERN collider was turned on and things went from bad to whatever circus hell this part of the string is.
