Contrast topstitching - a simple design change on basic stitching, but can be so difficult to do cleanly. Think carefully about thread thickness and colour, needle choice, tension and stitch length. See 'Ex 33.04 : Topstitching and Edgestitching' in our book How To Start Sewing

If you have a shirt pattern that you enjoy why not try splicing it up to add volume and add a gathered or drawstring detail? You can use our book How To Start Sewing to find techniques for gathering and drawstrings, and use our book How Patterns Work to help add the extra volume.
