I want a smoke alarm that chirps once when the battery is low, then turns on an LED so I know which one it is. Why does this always happen at 3am? Seriously, is there a reason for this stupid design?

If you are trying to design and build something new, time spent building test infrastructure is well worth the investment. This is true for software or hardware. Make testing fast and easy!

If you are looking for an inspiring read, try Paddling My Own Canoe by Audrey Sutherland. In the 1960's she swam solo multiple times the north coast of Molokai. Great writer.

Before undocking our Soyuz to return to Earth, I called Mission Control during a quiet time on the flight loop. I told them it was an honor to have worked with them. Expedition 7 was most difficult, coming in the wake of the loss of Shuttle Columbia.
