I'm by no means an activist of any kind. Today being my first day in town, not being able to see what others can, it made me more aware of what needs changing. I saw a very apt quote recently;- "What you take for granted, others are wishing for". Think on that.
(2) How many know what a symbol cane is, who'd use it and why? A pharmacist, bank staff & asda staff all had no idea. It means "I have low vision so may need help". - Why do many road crossing buttons not have the buzzer below, or make a sound to indicate it's safe to cross?
This is in two parts ..(1) I was out and about in town today test driving my cane with the ball on the end.. Wow I hurt, ache and bruised. I walked into windows, I couldn't see door handles for shop doors so thought they were automatic and walked into several.
I had a visit from my visual impairment officer today. Then it came time for nerves and anxiety to go through the roof as I had my first attempt at going around the outside of my house with my stick, instead of my symbol cane. Luckily incident free.
Why do so many people seem to think wheelchair users with low vision have to stay home and get everything delivered, never venturing out and about? I've been getting a lot of nasty comments in town lately 😟
R.I.P to a much loved and respected Queen. She will be sorely missed.

Shortly after I started watching 🏴 rugby a Springbok player & manager came into the hotel I waitressed at. Seated at one of my tables, the young flustered 18yr old me suddenly blurted out "oh, you play for the Reebok's".. oops 😳 🤣 So glad he had a sense of humour.🤦
