“Functional medicine” is “the worst of both worlds.” It combines the massive over-testing and over-treatment that can happen in conventional medicine with pure quackery, like “detoxification,” naturopathy, homeopathy, and chiropractic. - @gorskon

@jonathanstea @gorskon 100%. Why would you want to treat root causes when you can prescribe pharmaceuticals to treat symptoms?
@bbrandt85 @jonathanstea @gorskon Root cause is meaningless for most ailments. It's often a combination of many things. Do tell us all when you find the "root cause" of many ailments outside of obvious infections.
@bbrandt85 @jonathanstea @gorskon If I relied on alternative “medicine” I would either have 0 mobility or not be here at all.
@bbrandt85 @jonathanstea @gorskon You've run your car into a tree. Do you want a trauma surgeon or a driving instructor? It's the symptoms that kill, & root causes aren't always medical. It's irrational to attack a Clinical Psych over this. Helping people discover root causes is a significant part of the job.
@bbrandt85 @jonathanstea @gorskon Please tell us the source of your expertise in pharmacology, and provide the scientific definition of "root cause".
@bbrandt85 @jonathanstea @gorskon If you have appendicitis, science knows the cause and what to do to save your life. If you decide to ignore this knowledge and treat with "alternative therapy", you will probably die. Think about this for a moment, about the cause of appendicitis.
