Memory: My dad used to harvest burls (those wild, knobby "wood tumors" on tree trunks) and transform them into stunning everyday treasures like vases, lamps, candlesticks, and ashtrays. Each piece had that unique, swirling grain that made it one-of-a-kind.
Memory: In the late '70s or early '80s, my dad snagged a reel-to-reel tape recorder with a busted case. Instead of tossing it, he handcrafted a beautiful wooden replacement.
